In the popup dialog you can configure the columns.

I have 7 groups with several links in each group and I want to display them in two columns, but no matter what I do, they always display in one column. Any idea what could be causing this? I am running this in SP 2013.

To edit the css you just need to edit the web part via the tool pane on the right side. There you will find a button that says edit source code. Then you are able to change the values to everything you like to have.

After you got the web part ID you need to replace any occourance of $(“.dfwp-list”) to $(“#ct_yourwebpartID .dfwp-list”).
Do you know how you get the ID using IE Developer Toolbar?
